Including everyone in... Special Events

For any special events or times when the service includes different activity, have you thought about how you might keep your message simple, and break long stretches of concentration up into smaller sections?

Is there someone trained to help explain in simple terms what is happening to those who may not understand? Can you state very simply what you are doing and why, before elaborating?

In the case of events planned beforehand, think about ways to include people with learning disabilities in the event itself! Can you prepare them in the preceding weeks through specially focused teaching in small groups, or individually, so that they will get the most out of the event?

Funerals

Check with the family that any person with a learning disability is aware of what has happened, and be prepared to speak with the individual yourself before the service.  Do not assume that the person would not want to attend the service!
