Including everyone in... Age Groups

All general considerations are relevant to different age groups, but keep some specifics in mind:

  • Children
    Can you include children with learning disabilities within their own age group? Consider that some of the other children may be meeting a person with a learning disability for the first time, can you guide them as to how to include the child with the learning disability? How can the child be made to feel part of the group?
  • Young People
    Do you train your youth workers on the inclusion of physically and learning disabled children?
  • Older People
    People with learning disabilities have their own life experiences and should not be treated as children. Can you find ways to draw out their own gifts and experience to enrich your church? As people with learning disabilities age, they will likely encounter mobility, sight or hearing problems too.
