Opening up your Outreach & Mission: Resources

Livability have developed a Resource Pack for Churches, helping you to explore practical, creative and spiritual ways to engage disabled people more fully in the life of your church and local community. Based on the well-known theme of the Good Samaritan, 'things i can do' includes:

  • A DVD testimony from a young disabled Christian;
  • Key notes for a talk
  • All-age interactive drama
  • Prayers and songs
  • Discussion guidelines for small groups
  • Ideas for ministry development

Hearts in Motion – a six lesson Bible study exploring disability from a Biblical perspective. Available from Through the Roof: 01372 749955

Access to Understanding

One Big Family

If you want to experience a time of celebration that includes all of us, please get in touch with Causeway Prospects: obf@prospects.org.uk

They will provide you with an information pack showing you:

  • Where to find people with learning disabilities
  • How to reach and invite them
  • How to tailor a service that is accessible to all, including worship and teaching
  • Plenty of creative ideas
  • What to expect on the day: a DVD of actual worship celebrations with people with learning disabilities
  • Brochures to help you promote the event to your church members and their friends
  • Where to go from there - after all, many people with learning disabilities will have heard about Jesus for the first time in their lives!

Causeway Prospects also publishes JUST teaching guides, a series of five books to help you in your ministry to teach on a one to one basis or in a group. Each book in the Jesus-centred Understanding Simple Truth series contains a whole year's worth of teaching material for Causeway PROSPECTS Groups, and each book contains several teaching sections with special 'extras' for Christmas and Easter.

A Church that fails to include disabled people is itself disabled.

This page is a starting point. You will find questions to ask yourself when thinking about how easy to access, how welcoming your church is to disabled people. The partners of Churches for All are there to assist you with the answers.
